Description
Another close up of part of an amazing outdoor steel sculpture in Leawood, Kansas called "Tango" from the Dancers Series. The stainless steel reflecting colors from the sky, grass and the red of my shirt.
These crumpled areas in the thick steel were created by external air pressure as the air in the sealed internal structure cavity was vacuumed out to let the crushing weight of our atmosphere to dictate the final, unpredictable shapes.
“Dancers” is a sculpture by German artist Ewerdt Hilgemann and was purchased by the city of Leawood, Kansas for $170,000. It is the 20th 3-D work in the city’s public art collection.
Installed in May of 2018, “Dancers,” originally created for a temporary seven-sculpture exhibition in New York City during the summer of 2014, is a two-piece work of art fashioned from two kinds of steel. Each piece is a 20-foot tall rectangular column weighing about a ton.
