Description
A close up portion of a steel sculpture called "Tango" from the Dancers Series in Leawood, Kansas.
Like all good outdoor stainless steel sculptures this one reflects it's surroundings like trees, grass, sky, & clouds into magic shapes and lines. This sculpture is infused with intentional crimps, crush zones and bends which look different from every twist of the camera angle. Depending upon the time of day, sun angle and cloud cover the results can be wildly varied.
These crumpled areas in the thick steel were created by external air pressure as the air in the sealed internal structure cavity was vacuumed out to let the crushing weight of our atmosphere to dictate the final, unpredictable shapes. This image was taken on an overcast morning, so the result was pretty much only silvery tones.
“Dancers” is a sculpture by German artist Ewerdt Hilgemann and was purchased by the city of Leawood, Kansas for $170,000. It is the 20th 3-D work in the city’s public art collection.
Installed in May of 2018, “Dancers,” originally created for a temporary seven-sculpture exhibition in New York City during the summer of 2014, is a two-piece work of art fashioned from two kinds of steel. Each piece is a 20-foot tall rectangular column weighing about a ton.

That is a very provocative image Christopher. And, of course, all images should be provocative.
Christopher McKenzie replied:
I am glad you approve, Marie. Yes...it is intentionally but covertly provocative as I didn't just want to simply blurt out what it reminded me of.
