As an astrophotographer myself, I am in awe of this one.

I was stupid not to get more photos than I did when this occurred. Oh, well. I have fond memories of being knocked out of my shoes when I saw it in person.

Artist's Description

I captured this image of comet Hyakutake on March 27, 1996 in Louisburg, Kansas. Had to get away from the lights of Greater Kansas City to get a nice dark sky, and it was pretty chilly out there with my old Minolta X700 film camera as I estimated shutter speeds for this. I hope that everyone gets a chance to see a similarly striking comet in their lifetime as it is truly spectacular.

As a child I received my love of art from my mother who I watched write poetry, paint with pastels and draw with pencils and charcoal. I followed her by painting with Acrylics and drawing some myself as I went through my teenage years, and I also had a couple of inspiring art teachers in middle school. As an adult I was able to afford a camera and I transitioned to photography. I am based in the Midwest, in a suburb of Kansas City, and although I capture time with my camera primarily as a hobby I take it very seriously. Though most of my work comes from close to home I have also captured quite a few images in other parts of the US from my travels.
