Description
Another close up shot of a portion of a steel sculpture called "Tango" from the Dancers Series I found in Kansas. Like all good outdoor stainless steel sculptures this one reflects it's surroundings like trees, grass, sky, & clouds into magic. Depending upon the time of day, sun angle and cloud cover the results can be wildly varied.
These crumpled areas in the thick steel were created by external air pressure as the air in the sealed internal structure cavity was vacuumed out to let the crushing weight of our atmosphere to dictate the final, unpredictable shapes. The colors you see here are pretty much untouched from what was seen in person. although I did increase the contrast slightly.
“Dancers” is a sculpture by German artist Ewerdt Hilgemann and was purchased by the city of Leawood, Kansas for $170,000. It is the 20th 3-D work in the city’s public art collection.
Installed in May of 2018, “Dancers,” originally created for a temporary seven-sculpture exhibition in New York City during the summer of 2014, is a two-piece work of art fashioned from two kinds of steel. Each piece is a 20-foot tall rectangular column weighing about a ton.
