Someone needs to plant another tree there, it's just too wonderful a spot not to. Just a thought but maybe you can plant another tree there and photograph it as it grows up throughout the years with beautiful sunsets behind it.

Sounds good, but intentionally planting a sapling in the Flint Hills would border on insanity I would guess.

Simply stunning. So glad you contacted me, it reminded me to view your superb galleries again. This image is outstanding.

Well, thank you, Mal. That means a lot to me coming from you. Yes, I was real happy with this one, myself. I could 'feel it' when I was there working those last moments of sunlight before the clouds obscured the light.

Artist's Description

The prairie of Kansas prepares for a November night.
Update April, 2016: The tree has now been destroyed. Victim of a plains storm and possible lightning strike it was ripped apart down the middle. At least I was fortunate enough to have captured this when I did.
Time now to search for a 'new' tree.

About Christopher McKenzie

Christopher McKenzie

As a child I received my love of art from my mother who I watched write poetry, paint with pastels and draw with pencils and charcoal. I followed her by painting with Acrylics and drawing some myself as I went through my teenage years, and I also had a couple of inspiring art teachers in middle school. As an adult I was able to afford a camera and I transitioned to photography. I am based in the Midwest, in a suburb of Kansas City, and although I capture time with my camera primarily as a hobby I take it very seriously. Though most of my work comes from close to home I have also captured quite a few images in other parts of the US from my travels. There are artists, and then there are folks who have a keen eye for art and are able to...
