Built in 1918 the old grade school closed in 1986, and this sad playground in Cedar Point, Kansas clearly has not had any children around for many years. Ancient merry-go-round's, slides and see-saw's sit idle in the overgrown weeds.
As a child I received my love of art from my mother who I watched write poetry, paint with pastels and draw with pencils and charcoal. I followed her by painting with Acrylics and drawing some myself as I went through my teenage years, and I also had a couple of inspiring art teachers in middle school. As an adult I was able to afford a camera and I transitioned to photography. I am based in the Midwest, in a suburb of Kansas City, and although I capture time with my camera primarily as a hobby I take it very seriously. Are there people still living in the town to ask? So sad, I just heard that they now 'safe' playgrounds need to be updated with an element of risk as they found out children now days are becoming anxious! I'm so glad I grew up in this era.

Much of the town (like this school) has been abandoned, but there are still a number of families around. The old Drinkwater-Schriver Grist Mill is just up the road at the Cottonwood River and is undergoing preservation work to restore it to 1875 vintage...but there is a long way to go.
