Are there people still living in the town to ask? So sad, I just heard that they now 'safe' playgrounds need to be updated with an element of risk as they found out children now days are becoming anxious! I'm so glad I grew up in this era.

Much of the town (like this school) has been abandoned, but there are still a number of families around. The old Drinkwater-Schriver Grist Mill is just up the road at the Cottonwood River and is undergoing preservation work to restore it to 1875 vintage...but there is a long way to go.

Artist's Description

Built in 1918 the old grade school closed in 1986, and this sad playground in Cedar Point, Kansas clearly has not had any children around for many years. Ancient merry-go-round's, slides and see-saw's sit idle in the overgrown weeds.

I am based in the Midwest, in a suburb of Kansas City, and although I capture time with my camera primarily as a hobby I take it very seriously. Though most of my work comes from close to home I have also captured quite a few images in other parts of the US from my travels. There are artists, and then there are folks who have a keen eye for art and are able to...
