Artist's Description

Two of the four Badminton shuttlecocks (or birdies) that were created by husband and wife Claes Oldenburg and Coosie van Bruggen in 1994 sit on the south lawn of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri.
The 22 acre Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park (as it is known) is home to many interesting pieces of work...but these shuttlecocks are the most outstanding mostly because of their immense size. Each one is 18 feet tall, and weighs in at 5,500 lbs!

1/40 sec, f11, 56mm.
