Description
The Lays Motor Lodge & signage as it looks these days in Kingdom City, Missouri. Once a popular place for families and business men to stay when traversing the middle of the state.
Third Place finish in the FAA Contest "Forgotten by Time" March, 2016.
ISO 400, 1/50 sec, f11, 35mm.
Update November 2023: I have not stopped by here for probably a year...and now that I have returned I see that the old Motor Lodge is completely gone and no trace of it or the old sign remain. Just a wisp of memory like smoke on the wind.

Congratulations on your win in the Forgotten by Time contest. Wonderful image and processing! f
Christopher McKenzie replied:
Thanks, Eleanor. I had spotted this place and got sort of excited...but capture was not particularly easy. Often direct sunlight was way too contrasty. Overgrowth in Summer obscured everything. Overcast sunlight in early Spring proved to work best.

Very nice colors. I can imagine how it looked many many years ago.Congrats!!
Christopher McKenzie replied:
Yes, at one time there must have been children running all over as they were probably happy to be outside of the family cars they were stuck inside for God knows how many hours.

Love this overgrown, dilapidated image! Great work!
Christopher McKenzie replied:
Thanks, Lori. At one time the Lays Motor Lodge was a thriving business...as it sits along old US 40. Once Interstate 70 was built nearby I suppose the days were numbered for it's survival.
Sue Smith
Just a bit overgrown! Nice capture, Christopher!
Christopher McKenzie replied:
Yes it is. And when the leaves are grown it is hard to see much of it very well. Thanks, Sue.
