Description
A cool, flamed Ford Hot Rod poses in front of the abandoned Armour Meat Packing facility in National City, Illinois (East St. Louis).
The Armour plant opened its doors in 1903 and was a prominent feature in the National Stock yards until the plants closure in 1959. At one point 4,500 people worked in the facility.
The building directly behind the car housed the coal fired power station and steam operated generators as well as refrigeration apparatus. The plant photo was captured in March of 2015.
The car was captured in Des Moines in 2011 at the Goodguys Car Show and I believe it is a 1930 model, which means it was born right in the heyday of the plant behind it.
Car: ISO 400, 1/100 sec, f8, 41mm.
Plant: ISO 640, 1/400 sec, f11, 18mm.
