Description
OK, this looks more like a social media post than it does Fine Arthowever this image ties into my more artistic piece A Sign of the Times, so it seemed relevant.
I was asked to assist a co-worker across town, so loaded myself into the car and threw my camera along just in case. As I drove past this old nostalgic movie theater sign (just a few blocks from my home) I saw workers in the process of dismantling it.
I quickly pulled over, threw my sunglasses aside, grabbed my camera, dropped my cell phone in the snow and ran over and snagged a few photos just as the sign was coming apart!
The crazy part is that I had just 48hrs before captured A Sign of the Times and had just uploaded that image 12hrs prior to the workers taking it down!
If it had not been for my co-worker asking me to leave my house I would have missed the de-construction of the iconic sign.
And, I found out from one of the steel workers that the sign is going to be re-used at a theater location across town owned in part by the same group of people.
Soon it will be erected at a shopping & arts center called Englewood Station which is in Independence, Missouri.
The Englewood Theater opened in the summer of 1949. The new theater featured a new technology for Englewood air conditioning, and also included plush seats, new sound, indirect lighting, a crying room, and more. The Englewood Theater has also been closed for some time now, but recent area revitalization and now the acquisition of the old Glenwood sign means that a re-opening should be forthcoming!
I cant wait to see her lit up for customers once again.

Ooh Christopher, it was a stroke of luck that you captured this. I would think that one of the local newspapers would love this and your "Sign of the Times". Both are perfect photos of our community. l/f

Great capture of this iconic sign on its journey to its next location! Liked and favorited!

We will of course miss seeing it in our neighborhood every day, but glad it will be put to use instead of getting scrapped.
